The wonderful presentation of this sumptuously produced album is definitely a plus point in your decision for purchasing. An exclusive cardboard gatefold sleeve opens with a stunningly illustrated booklet with the disc fitting neatly into a slipcase.
Musically, this is also a top-drawer collection of works that have long been overlooked. Particularly memorable are the arias. 'Tremo fra' dubbi miei' from 'La Clemenza di Tito' and 'Quel chiaro rio' from 'La Corona', both operas of outstanding beauty that demonstrate Gluck's pre-eminent position as the composer of the day. Bartoli is indeed an outstanding singer, she brings an inherent quality and panache to the arias that are interpreted almost faultlessly. Forck and the Berlin Akadamie are sympathetic musical partners throughout.
Much enjoyment will certainly be had by browsing through the notes and facsimile reproductions whilst listening to these sublime pieces on a cold Saturday evening!
