Hyperion's excellent and laudable series of Monteverdi's sacred music continues apace with this third volume that is full of goodies and some really excellent music. Robert King conducts with his usual panache and knowledge of this sector and the soloists are all from the top-notch category.

The disc starts off with a robust 'Dixit Dominus II" that moves along quite ravishingly and this is followed by an equally lovely 'Sancta Maria' in which both Carolyn Sampson and Rebecca Outram sing with great fervour and fine technical accomplishment. I was also pretty mesmerized by the various motets on offer such as the beautiful 'Christe adoramus te' and the equally succinct 'Momento Domine David'.

King concludes the disc with a superb rendition of the Gloria in which all soloists are involved and which provides a fitting end to a wonderfully recorded disc. As usual, the notes are of an extremely high standard and the recording is well nigh perfect with just the right interplay between voices and orchestra. Superlatives abound and I am in no doubt that the next volume of this wonderful series will provide the sacred music enthusiast with equally tantalizing tidbits from the great master.
