The latest instalment in Karl Jenkins' roster of works is a Stabat Mater of undoubted power and immediacy. It is full of beautiful melodic touches as we have now become familiar with this composer's music and the ebb and flow of the music is well maintained by the contributions of soloists and choir.
Jenkins explains that he has also inserted a number of texts into the work which did not originally form part of the original 13th century poem but which fit into the whole scheme of things quite well nonetheless.
All those familiar with Jenkins' music will undoubtedly enjoy this lovely work which is replete with heart warming episodes throughout. The recording is excellent and handles the balance between choral forces, soloists and orchestra in exemplary fashion.
