This well-filled disc continues to confirm Arts' excellent reputation in quality recordings of music from all periods but especially the baroque. Accademia Bizantina are a very sprightly and interesting outfit and they bring substantial energy and joie de vivre to these Concerti Grossi by Alessandro Scarlatti and published by B. Cooke in London in 1740.

I particularly enjoyed the middle concerti, #3, 4 and 5 which are quite replete with arpeggios and melodious lines with Mauro Valli extremely virtuosic on all counts. He returns with effete playing in the Sonatas which are also very much virtuoso works especially the 3rd Sonata in a sprightly C major.

As always Arts' packaging is sublime and the SACD sound is truly a joy to listen to. The notes are excellent although a bit on the longish side but anyone looking for such works should not hesitate at all.
